Sources and Licences

1. Where the details in directory entries come from

Directory entries show sites whose operator is not yet on Banaki. Banaki builds them from publicly available sources, and every detail needs proof. These are the sources we use:

  • The operator's website. It provides facilities, offers, season and contact details of the business premises.
  • Open data from destination.one. Basic data such as name, address, location, website, telephone number, category and features of a site. We only take over records published under one of these licences: public domain (PD, Public Domain Mark 1.0), CC0 1.0 or CC BY 4.0. For CC BY, we name the author on the page of the entry, together with the licence and a link to the record. We do not take over contact persons from the records.
  • OpenStreetMap. We use it only to match a site to the right object and to check its location. We do not take data from OpenStreetMap into the entry.

Banaki changes and adds to these details, for example with facilities from the operator's website and with the description, which is created with AI. Where the source requires attribution, it appears on the entry. How a directory entry is created and sorted is explained on the page "Ranking and Reviews".

2. OpenStreetMap data elsewhere

We also show OpenStreetMap data in other places on Banaki: the map, the surroundings of a site, tours, protected areas and roadtrip routes (section 3). There you will see "© OpenStreetMap contributors". The data is available under the Open Database Licence (ODbL), more at openstreetmap.org/copyright. Here too: details changed and added to by Banaki.

3. Routes for roadtrips

A routing service calculates distance, travel time and line of a roadtrip route with data from OpenStreetMap. For this, Banaki uses openrouteservice of HeiGIT gGmbH, Heidelberg, or its own routing server.

openrouteservice. The results of openrouteservice are available under the licence CC BY-SA 4.0. Wherever we show a route calculated this way, it says:

"© openrouteservice by HeiGIT | Data from OpenStreetMap"

  • In the route planner as a line below the map.
  • In the view of a route likewise as a line below the map.
  • In the GPX file that you download for a route, in the header of the file, together with the link to the licence.

Route cards without a map, for example in the overview of roadtrips, in the profile or on the page of a place, show distance and travel time from the same result. There is no separate notice there. This section names the source.

What Banaki changes in the line. Banaki simplifies the line so that it loads faster. To everyone except the owner of the route, Banaki shows free waypoints only rounded and ends the line before them. The line you see or download is therefore a modified version of the openrouteservice result. Titles, descriptions, stops and travel reports of users are not results of a routing service and are not covered by this licence.

If you share the route. You may use, modify and share the line in the GPX file under CC BY-SA 4.0. In doing so, name the source as above, link the licence, state that the line was modified, and share a modified version of the line under the same licence. Title, description and names of the stops in the file come from the user who created the route. This licence does not apply to them.

Own routing server. If Banaki calculates a route on its own server, it does not come from HeiGIT and is not covered by CC BY-SA 4.0. The Open Database Licence (ODbL) of the OpenStreetMap data applies to it, as in section 2. The map then carries the notice "© OpenStreetMap contributors" with a link.

Without a routing service. If Banaki cannot calculate a route, Banaki shows only a straight line between the stops (as the crow flies) and tells you so. The map then carries no notice of a routing service.

4. Disclaimer of the licences

The Creative Commons licences exclude any warranty from the licensor. For you this means: details from open datasets, from OpenStreetMap and the routes of routing services can be out of date or incomplete, and neither the authors nor Banaki give any warranty for them. Check important details, such as opening times and prices, with the operator of the site.

5. Photo credits on listing photos

Photos that Banaki receives from the booking system of a site carry a credit if the author or the licence is known. The credit names the author, the source and the licence with a link.

  • On the detail page it appears as a line below the photo in full-screen view and as an info icon on the photos in the gallery and in the unit dialog.
  • In search it appears as an info icon on the photos of the cards in the results list and in the map popup.

"Edited" means for us: cropped and scaled. Banaki changes nothing else about the images. A licence that requires attribution also applies to this version.

6. AI-generated images

We label images created with AI as "AI-generated". The label is always visible on the image, not only after a click.

7. Photos and details in directory entries

Directory entries show sites without a host on Banaki. For them, Banaki takes over public details and photos from the website of the site in question or uses photos from collections in which Banaki holds the usage rights. For photos from the website, the credit on the photo names the domain of the site the image comes from.

Details such as prices, times and house rules are not shown by Banaki in a directory entry. They appear only once the operator has taken over the listing and confirmed the details.

If a photo or a detail should disappear, tell us through the contact form or the page Report content. We remove it on request, more on that in the next section.

8. Correction or removal

If a detail is wrong, a credit is missing or an entry or photo should disappear, tell us. Use the page Report content or the contact form, or write to moin@kogge.digital. Name the entry or photo, ideally with a link. We review the report and correct the detail or remove the content.
